Oxford Day Book Signing!
Barbara Lockhart will join us at Mystery Loves Company from 11:00 – 2:00 on Oxford Day April 22.
She is the author of numerous books all set on the Eastern Shore.
A graduate of the MFA Program at Vermont College, Barbara Lockhart has received Individual Artist Awards in Fiction from the Maryland State Arts Council for excerpts from her novels, Requiem for a Summer Cottage and Elizabeth’s Field, as well as for her short stories which have appeared in such venues as Indiana Review, The Greensboro Review, Pleiades, Women’s Words, Baltimore City Paper, Oceana Magazine, and an anthology, Generation to Generation.
Her work as a teacher of early childhood for twenty-five years inspired a program and manual for children’s literature for teachers and parents, Read to me, talk with me, which was in use nationwide. Two of her children’s books, Rambling Raft and Once a Pony Time, were written in collaboration with her daughter, Lynne Lockhart, who was also the illustrator. Her latest children’s book, Mosey’s Field, has been recently released by Schiffer Publishing and was illustrated by Heather Crow.
Lockhart has conducted workshops throughout Maryland and Delaware with regard to Read to me, talk with me, and has appeared on television after the publication of Once a Pony Time and Requiem for a Summer Cottage. Readings and lectures on her work have taken place at Salisbury University, Barnes and Noble, Eastern Shore Writers Association, Bay to Ocean Writing Conference, Dorchester Historical Society, The Reginald F. Lewis African-American Museum, Enoch Pratt Library, several Eastern Shore libraries and book clubs.
A native of New York City, Lockhart now lives on a twenty-two acre nature preserve she’s planted with pines and dogwood on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
