TAP Presents: Rocky Horror Picture Show (19-29 Oct showings)
October 19, 2017 - October 29, 2017
The Tred Avon Players are pleased to announce auditions for Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show. Audition dates are Sunday, July 23rd at 7:30, Wednesday July 26th at 7pm, and Thursday, July 27th at 7pm. All auditions will be held at the Oxford Community Center. The show opens Thursday, October 19th and runs until Sunday, October 29th, directed by Talley Wilford.
The story follows Brad and Janet, two ordinary, wholesome American kids who, after their car breaks down in the middle of the night, stumble upon a castle in Ohio. The castle is filled with alien lifeforms sent to Earth to observe and report the Earthling way of life back to the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. Unbeknownst to Brad and Janet, and the rest of his minions, the Crown Prince of Transsexual (Frank N. Furter) has grown bored with the mission and has decided to burrow in and indulge in the human way of life with the help of his alien subordinates, Riff Raff and Magenta.
This musical satire pays tribute to the era of B movie horrors and science fiction. The story unfolds with humor and intrigue that leads the audience on a wide ride of a night to remember enriched by the delicious music and lyrics.
Director Talley Wilford says, “When adapting a show as classic and iconic as Rocky Horror, it becomes the job of the director and creative team to create a fresh way of telling the story, as though it is new and being told for the first time.”
Wilford and music director Ray Remesch aim to take the music for this show in a glam-rock styled approach, and auditioning actors should come prepared with sixteen bars of a song by iconic rock artists from any decade. Please keep your audition to 16 bars of song. Suggested artists for audition material include Meat Loaf, Led Zepplin, Cher, David Bowie, The Who, Joan Jett, The Cranberries, Avril Levine, Tina Turner, Green Day, The Psychedelic Furs, Foxy Shazam. In the musical theatre vein, appropriate audition material may come from rock-opera styled shows such as Jesus Christ Superstar, The Who’s Tommy, American Idiot, Bat-Boy, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, or Rent.
Additionally, auditioning actors must be familiar with the score of the show, enough to sing a verse of the following numbers from the show: “Science Fiction Double Feature,” “The Time Warp,” “Hot Patootie,” “The Floor Show” ([“Rose Tint My World”] Janet/Columbia/Rocky/Brad verses), and “I’m Going Home.”
Roles include: Frank N Furter (Baritone/Bass), Riff Raff (Tenor), Magenta (Alto-Mezzo), Rocky (Tenor), Brad (Baritone), Janet (Mezzo-Soprano), Columbia (Mezzo-Soprano), Eddie & Dr. Scott (Bari-Tenor or Alto), and Criminologist (Baritone).
