The Oxford Museum offers a fascinating look into more than three centuries of life in one of Maryland’s oldest waterfront towns. Founded after the discovery of 18th- and 19th-century artifacts, the museum has grown into a comprehensive collection showcasing the people, trades, and traditions that shaped Oxford’s maritime and community heritage. Visitors can explore displays featuring historic photographs, waterman tools, boatbuilding equipment, clothing, documents, and local artifacts that illustrate daily life from the colonial era to the modern day. The museum provides an engaging introduction to the town’s historic significance and enduring character.
The Water’s Edge Museum in Oxford highlights the deep cultural and historical legacy of African American families on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Through art, literature, and historical interpretation, the museum shares stories of resilience, creativity, and community rooted in one of America’s oldest free Black communities. Exhibits explore the lives of watermen, artisans, military figures, and spiritual leaders while honoring the broader contributions of Black residents to regional maritime and cultural history. The museum also focuses on education and empowerment, inviting visitors to understand how these histories continue to shape the present.
Visit The Oxford Community Center
The Oxford Community Center, which offers free coffee and conversation every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. is also a great place to find out about current events! The Oxford’s Community Center has recurring events throughout the year, so be sure to check their website below or a current listing of events. They just might have a play in session!
Oxford Community Center is a privately funded non-profit organization whose facilities are used and programs designed for the entertainment and education of the entire Oxford community and surrounding area.
Premier biking / walking trails
The Oxford / St. Michaels Bike Trail is recognized as one of the best in the mid-Atlantic region.
The route includes the historic town of Oxford, the crossroads of Royal Oak with its antique stores and post office (where you will find a cannon ball that lodged in a nearby oak tree during the War of 1812), and our stunning sister town of St. Michaels with its many shops and restaurants!
A Few Must-Do’s in Oxford
Cars & Coffee
Be sure to stop by the Oxford Community Center from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. the first Saturday of the month (from April – November, weather permitting) to view some amazing cars on display and chat with the owners. And don’t miss the annual Road Rally in September!
Oxford Park
Relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery overlooking the river and living shoreline. Have a picnic in our shaded Town Park while the kids swing and play! This is the perfect place and perfect town for family gatherings. Plus, the views are spectacular.

Go Boating
Whether you like to sail, motor boat or kayak – Oxford is the place for you. We are surrounded by water on three sides; Town Creek, the Tred Avon River, and the Chesapeake Bay. A number of marinas to cover all your needs, quaint inns if you want a land break, restaurants and markets to restock your boat. We have it all!
Conservation Park
Conservation park in Oxford, Maryland is truly a beautiful place for strollers, walking, running and biking! This wetland park stretches 86 acres on the southern side of state Route 333, near Boone Creek Road, and features walking and biking trails, picturesque viewing areas, wildlife viewing and wide open landscapes.

John Wesley Preservation Society
The John Wesley Methodist Episcopal Church in Oxford is built on a tiny patch of land outside the waterfront town of Oxford. For generations, a racially mixed congregation worshipped in this little church, an unassuming one-room building without a steeple or indoor plumbing. A John Wesley activist, Nellie Leatherberry found a way to have a 9’ x 12’ “cook shop” constructed. Over the years, it nearly tripled in size and operated until the late 1970s. Nellie’s Cook Shop now houses the church’s documentary photography and oral history transcriptions.

Kids Camp
Weekly enrollment is limited to 40 campers. Campers may enroll for one to four weeks. OKC Camper Eligibility Children are eligible to be campers if they are between 6* and 13 years of age (children entering second grade through eighth grade). An OKC Camper must be a capable bicycle rider and able to understand and obey safe bicycling rules. The camp gets around by bicycle and uses the whole town of Oxford as its campus. Good bicycling skills are basic to a safe and fun camp experience.

Oxford Museum
This hometown museum preserves and displays Oxford’s nearly 350 years of colonial and American history, and maintains a collection of more that 2,500 artifacts and memorabilia. The collection represents the evolution of Oxford, from one of the country’s earliest colonial port through the modern era, and its status as a premier sailing destination. Exhibits change regularly and periodic lectures and tours are offered. Here you’ll find books, games and gifts local to Oxford and Eastern Shore.

The Oxford Library
The Oxford Library is an independent all volunteer run library whose mission is to promote reading for all ages. Each year we fund a scholarship for a Chesapeake Community College Student.
There are three annual book sales each year during Town events:
- Oxford Day – The last Saturday in April
- Book Mart – The last Saturday in September
- Christmas on the Creek – Date to be determined each year

Tred Avon Players
Tred Avon Players’ 2022 Season will mark 40 years of providing entertaining theatrical experiences for our local community. The Tred Avon Players, Inc. (TAP) is a non-profit Maryland corporation, organized in 1982 to present plays and musicals at the Oxford Community Center, in Oxford Maryland. Since the first sold-out melodramas in August of that year, TAP has grown in community stature and artistic merit to present a mix of plays and musicals each year in one of the most beautiful towns on the Eastern Shore, for a growing, enthusiastic audience.

Waters Edge Museum
The Water’s Edge Museum proudly presents Black farmers, professional sailmakers, military figures, musicians, watermen, and crab pickers—The Founding Black Families of America who harnessed knowledge and power, and placed it firmly and confidently into the hands of their descendants. The Museum seeks to empower the young people of today to find their place in history and identify their own positive and unique voice when facing contemporary issues and challenges.
