Hundreds of brave, if slightly chilly, participants are expected to gather at the Tred Avon Yacht Club on Saturday, February 7, 2026, for the fourth annual Oxford Plunge, taking place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This year, the current Miss Maryland USA Titleholder, Lexia Gillette, will be among area residents, guests, and other local dignitaries participating in the event.

The mid-winter dash into the Tred Avon River has become a hallmark of Oxford’s community spirit, proving once again that this small town has a huge heart.

Residents and guests of all ages will splash into the icy water to support the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department and its emergency medical services, which depend on local donations to maintain life-saving equipment, provide training, deliver critical emergency services, and more.

“This event shows what Oxford does best. When businesses and neighbors come together, we create something meaningful that strengthens the entire community,” said Oxford Business Association President Monika Mraz. “The Plunge is fun, lively, and memorable, and your participation as a donor or dipper directly supports the people who answer the call when we need them most.”

Spectators are encouraged to line the waterfront, cheer for their favorite plungers, and enjoy a festive morning complete with drinks, Doc’s Sunset Grille’s crab soup, and plenty of photo-worthy moments along the shoreline.

Organizers hope to set a new record for turnout and donations. Teams of friends, families, businesses, and civic groups are already forming, many planning themed outfits and creative fundraising efforts in the weeks leading up to the event.

“All funds raised go straight to supporting our volunteers, and every dollar helps us respond faster and safer,” said Oxford Fire Co. President Tim Kearns. “Seeing the community rally like this means a lot to our members. It reminds us why we serve.”

All tax-deductible contributions from the event directly support OVFD, ensuring firefighters and EMS volunteers have the resources they need to protect Oxford and the surrounding communities.

Whether plunging or cheering from shore, participants can expect a spirited morning of camaraderie and fun right on the Tred Avon River, all while supporting the first responders who safeguard the town.
